The mission of the WRGC Education Committee is to provide members,their families and the community at large with various educational courses to enhance their understanding of federal, state and local laws, as well as conservation updates in addition to providing instruction in the safe use and handling of firearms and proper marksmanship. NYS Sportsman Education Courses


Great opportunity for anyone wishing to move on to the next step in their pistol shooting training.

Begin to feel comfortable with concealed carry or just get more practice with your pistol in various scenarios.

Attendees will shoot from a holstered position at various stationary and moving targets using standard targets as well as reactive steel targets.

Attendees will shoot approx. 300 rounds of ammo during this course.

NRA Basic Pistol Course
Full Instructor Led Course

This is a full instructor led course. No pre-course work required and materials will be provided.

Covers all of the basics including proper grip, shooting fundamentals, cleaning and live fire range time.

Qualifies as a live fire course and certificate issued upon completion. Certificate is good for out of state permit applications as well as upgrading to unrestricted for certain NY counties. Cost $85 per person.

NRA Basic Pistol Course - Blended

This is a blended style course, online pre-course work is required. This enables the course to be conducted in a shorter timeframe, 5 hours vs the standard 8 hour course. There is an additional fee to complete the online work.

Qualifies as a live fire course and certificate issued upon completion. Space is limited and courses do fill quickly.

intro to Defensive SHOTGUN COURSE


This course is designed to introduce students to the art of "Defensive  Shotgun", perfect if you keep a shotgun for home defense and/or doesn't have enough trigger time. 
You'll be guided through various live fire drills in order to improve your performance and comfort levels. At the end of this class, you'll have the knowledge, skills and attitude to use a shotgun efficiently and with confidence.

NRA Basic Pistol Instructor Course

This NRA Instructor Pistol Shooting Course is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching the NRA's Basic Pistol Shooting course.

This course will cover Basic Instructor Training (BIT) and discipline specific training (Basics of Pistol Shooting). As per NRA policies and guidelines, all instructor candidates MUST complete the following:

- Pre-course questionnaire

- Pre-course assessment exercises

- Successful completion of the NRA Basic Pistol Course (Instructor led version)

All materials will be provided, including NRA Trainer's Guide, NRA Pistol Shooting Instructor Outline and Lesson Plan and NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting student packet.

Certification presented upon successful completion

NYS Hunter Education Course

NYS certification course for new hunters and those requiring a hunter safety certificate for out of state use.

Students need to complete pre-course homework prior to attending course. Cost -Free.

NYS Bowhunter Education Course

NYS certification course needed to hunt with a bow in New York. A Hunter Education Course is NOT a pre-requisite,however it is required to hunt in NYS and obtain your bowhunting privilege.

Students need to complete pre-course homework prior to attending course. Cost -Free.
